KOKONGA.
Maich 29 —A most enjoyable concert was held in the schoolroom here on Friday evening in aid of the Mamototo Mounted Rifles. Tli3 building, which is usually crowded at our concerts, was barely filled, owing to many being busy with the harvest. The committee had spared no pains to make the conceit a success. They had nicely decorated the room with flowers and evergreens, the effect being very pretty. The officers and troopers appeared in uniform, and the room wore quite a military air. Mr Robert Logan (captain) occupied "the chair, and the following programme was gone through, meeting with much appreciation — Mrs Glendinnmg, pianoforte solo, "Husarenritt" ; song, Mi Foweraker , song, Miss Morgan, "Ben Bolt" ; song, Miss Ryan, "Je&sie's dream" ; song, Mr Glendinning, "The grand old flae" , song, Miss D. Bannerman, song, Trooper" Browne, "They all love Jack"; song, Mr Bannerman, "Our volunteers" ; song, Mrs J. Ryan ; song, Trooper J. Mathewson, "I never enjoyed myself so much before" ; duet, Miss Morgan and Mr Foweraker, "List to the convent bells" ; song, Mr Bremner, "Gallants of England." An interval of five minutes intervened. The second part was opened by a piano solo, "My Polly valse," by Miss H. Bannerman ; song, Mrs Morgan, "The minstrel boy" ; song, Trooper Kinsman, "The Union Jack" ; song, Trooper J. Mathewson, "Jack Crawford" ; soxl£, Mx Banflarm**
"The Cameron men"; Miss Ryan, song; song, Mr Fowerskrr, song, Trooper Browne, "The British lion" , song, Mr Brenincr,_ "Sons of the sword", sonp, Mrs J. Ryan. Tins brought an interesting programme to a close. 'Jhc Chanman pioposed a hearty \oi.e oi thanks to tho p r formers and committee fc- the evening's enjojment, a vote of thanks vvps then passed to tiie chairman. 3. he accompaniments we.c played during the evening by Mr= (Hciidinnmtr, Miss Morgan, and J\Ti°3 L Mathev. son. Refreshments were handed round, and the loom was afterwards cleaied for drncing, winch was kept up till the small Lours of the morning. Mr A Douglas supplied the music for the dancer". Weather.— The v/eathei here at present is beautiful— frosty nights and bright sunny days.
