UNIVERSITY COUNCIL
The monthly meeting of the University Counoi! was held on Monday afternoon ; prefeenl — Mr E. B. Cargill (\icß-chancellor), Dr Hocken, Dr Bura=, Mr J. Allen, M H.R., the Rev. A. Cameron, Mr T. X Sidey, and Dr Shand. The Secretary said lie had been informed thai Dr Milne, lecturer on jurisprudence, \\u^ so ill that it was practically impossible that he could resume hi=; work. He had no official information, but he believed that what he stated was quite correct — Mr Sidey said Dr Milne was temporarily unfit to go on viith. his classes — It was decided that Mr Sidey. Dr Shand, and Dr Hocken be appointed a committee to communicate with Dr Milne, and, if necessary, make a temporary appointment for the spssioii. The Registrar suggested that the same committee might make inquiry as to whether Mr A. R. Barclay. M.H R , intended to do as he did last year He had leave of absence for part of last pets'on — Mr Allen did not think Mr Barclay should be allowed to do as he did la?t year — The Rev. Mr Cameron supposed Mr Barclay would continue his lectures until the parliamentary session took up. — Mr Allen C.id not think that via-- treating the counc 1 fairly — Dr Hocken considered it v£&jsfi\y right that tbo council should ascevfalri whether Mr Barclay would fulfil his lecturer for the ensuing session. — • Dr Shand thought the council c houlcl consider the matter when Mr Barclay applied, for lea\e ot absence — Dr Burn= said thafc Mr Barclay v/as one of their oldest lecturers, and the counc 'l ought to show him all the courtesy possible. — The Rev. Mr Cameron did not see how the council could take action until it was "brought before them by Mr Barclay. — The Secretary said Mr Barclay would probably lecture until June, and then make application for a locum tenens — Dr Hocken thought it was for the council to say whether they were satisfied with Fuch a course. — The Vice-chancel-lor did not pee that the council could do. pnytlnns; in the matter at that meeting — • Mr Allen stated his intention of bringingit up at the n°xt meeting of the council. It was resolved — "That all students whose fees remain unpaid for four weeks after the commpneempnt of lectures thall bo excluded fiom attendance at clashes."
