THE BUBONIC PLAGUE.
LONDON, March 22. A Lascar aboard the Cape transport Simla, sent to the hospital at Southampton, was found to be suffering from bubonic plague. SYDNEY, March 25. As there are not any further signs of smallpox aboard the Euryalus, she has been released from quarantine. BRISBANE, March 20. A St. Leger railway man h^s been attacked with plague. . »- March 22. . A man named Smith has been attacked by the plague. It is a bad case. PERTH, March 20. A child has been attacked by -plague. : " March 21. Ernest Bird has been attacked with plague. March 22. Two men, Sparks and Buckley, have been attacked by plague. Owing to the fewness of the deaths the plague is regarded as having manifested itself in a minor form only. FREMANTLE, March 25. The first case of plague has appeared, the victim being J. Jones, emploj-ed by a confectionery firm. WELLINGTON, March 25. Dr Mason, chief officer oi health, says the local authorities of the colony have responded most loyally to the need for sanitary precautions. He does not think there is any reason to fear an outbreak of plague in New Zealand, while if a case is brought from elsewhere it can be promptly dealt with. . • ! A Wellington telegram states that since the Ui*y Council resumed purchasing rats on March 15 about 120 have been paid for.
