SCHOOL COMMISSIONER.

The monthly meeting of the Otago School Commissioners, held on the 19th, was attended by Messrs A. Baldey (in the chair), T. MacGibbon, D. Borne, and W. Dallas. Leave of absence was granted to the chairman (Mr J. P. Maitland). The Secretary stated that as the less'-ea of run 166 c had failed to complete their purchase within the time required he had advertised the run for sale on the 12th prox., and had also sent a note forfeiting all moneys paid, and informing the tenants' that they would be liable for all deficiencies and expenses of sale. Several tenants in the Wendon district \v.rote expressing dissatisfaction at the amount of the concessions recently granted iv their rents.— The commissioners decided that, having already fully considered the question of i evaluation, they could not entertain any fiesh requests for reductions. j The Secretary of the Otago Land Booirl ! lorwarded an application from Mr H. Pemble, perpetual lessee of section 11, block XI, Greenvale, to purchase the -freehold of the section.— Purchase appro\ed; application to be sent to the Go\ernment for consent. Mr A. Aitchison was granted a yearly lease of section 10, block VIII, townshm o£ Hampden. The Chairman reported on the work do no by Messrs Colin Robertson and Kenneth MKenzie, of Waikaia, on their respective leaseholds in accordance with previous arrangements.—The report wa^ adopted. A number of transfers of lea-e were consented to. Mr J. L. M'Donak', the bo.-u-d s Southland agent, reported on a case of alleged overcropping at Waikaja.— It was molved that tiie agent be requested to give full details ot the infringements of the conditions of lease by the applicant referred to, with a view to legal proceedings being taken to enforce the penalty. The Secretary reported that, with Mr Borne, he had inspected section 1 of 53, block IV, Maungatua, and had made arrangements to have it subdhided into four allotments and offered for lease af an early date. The Secretary laid on the table a list of reserves in various parts of the provincial district, the leases of which shortly expire. — It was decided to instruct the secretary to take the necessary steps to ad\ertise the sale of the leases, sales to he held at Oamaru, Dunedin, and Milton (or Balclutha). The secretary was also instructed to anange for valuations of the improvements on the various sections.
