MELBOURNE, March 19. Squabbling over the invitations to the opening of the Federal Parliament has already commenced. The Government propose to limit the municipal invitations to 1000, but the municipalities demand that every mayor, councillor, and town clerk be -nvited, and they are using pressure to gain their end. March 22. Over 13,000 itroops take part in a review 1 at Flemington during the Duke of York's visit. Sir G. Turner lias been returned un< opposed to the Federal Assembly, the opposition candidate withdrawing. ■ ■ March 23. Incltidiug Sir G. -Turner, four Protect tionrsts have been returned, although Mr A. M'Ltean (the ex-Premier) is supposed to> have only revenue tariff leanings. : -. SYDNEY, March. 20. Nominations for the Federal Assembly were received to-day. Mr Barton, the Federal Premier, was the only candidate returned unopposed. Sir W. J. Lyne has resigned his seat in the State Parliament, but retains the Premiership for a few days longer. March 20. Lord Hopetoun has received a cable from Lord Curzon announcing that Major-general Sir Edwin Collen, accompanied by his wife/ will represent the Indian Government af the opening of the Federal Parliament. March 23. Lord Hopetoun has been notified that Mr Taylor, Colonial Secretary to Ceylon, will represent that colony at the opening of the Federal Parliament. ADELAIDE, March 19. The Premier has leceived a cable message from Mr Barton cordially thanking him for his promise to send New Zealand troops to the 1 opening of the Federal Parliament, and expressing regret thai campaigning duties have prevented him from seeing more of the New Zealand Federal Commission which is now in Australia.
