Notes from Greymouth.

Croh Our Own Correspondent.) GREYMOUTH, October 3. The Greenstone Creek Company's pontoons were successfully launched to-day. Part of the machinery is on the giound. A report that lOOoz of gold was on the Grey River tables is absurd. From interviews with the secretary and directors and private information, it appears they can only expect a slight, if any, increase on last week's return f, provided always that exceptionally rich wash is not met with. Fioin the position of the dredge, the nature of the giound, and a knowledge of the ground ahead, they do not expect good returns for a. fortnight. Grey River share quotations, and also Warpuna, are going up. The reason why is a mystery. Nothing is known to warrant an increase of Grey Rivers from 2S<; to 06s.

The Great Lead Company have their pontoons in an advanced state, and tenders will shortly bu called for the building of the dam. As this will be constructed immediately above the confluence of the Waipuna Crock with the Grey River, a back water i& foimed that will greatly facilitate operations*. The Mo&quilo Cieek Company have lot a con ti act for clearing 15 acres of bush where dredging will commence. The contractors aie pushing on with the woik. The TVaipuna dredge is working thiee shifts. Tho gold, so far, is not of a heavy nature, though a few coarse pieces are met with. The tables are acting well and are clean of dead sand or silt.
