Faulkiner it was resolved to decline J.- Hunter's apwlication to purchase pait of ' section" 5,- block I, ,AKon district. > - ' - Mtfc Msrgarefc Hayes applied for a' lease orf: section 14, block VII, Waikawa quarry reserva for grazing. — Declined. The Assi^lant Surveyor-general wrote stating that the .Education Board propose to sell section 37, block XVII, Invercargili Hundred, and asked if the sale should be assented to.—Kecemmended accordingly. M'Kenzie and Sous applied for the right to cut tbnber on section 26, block VIII, Winton Hundred, formerly held by P. Devcreux.— Granted on payment of £3, timber to be cut out by 31st December next. G-. L. Queale applied for right to cut remaining timber on section 8 and part of 9 to -14, block VIII, New River Hundred, abandoned reserve area attached to sawmill area 182—650acres. — Granted as a sawmill area with tisxial lesorvcs. "Johu __'Ewen and others, settlers at Brown's, petitioned thai Jack's sawmill area, koiv cut out, be opened for settlement. — Commissioner, and Mr King to inspect. The transfer o£ section 722, Hokonui, from T. ( S. Nicol to Henr-y Gibbs was granted, subject to the ranger's report. ' ' j" The forfeiture of section 73, block VII, Invercargili Hundied, and section 26, block 111, Winton Hundred, was -rescinded. Alex. J*_" Donald-, applied for lease section. ] 9, block 111, Mataura, with right of cultivation. — Held _over for three months. Mr "W. Y. H. .Hall, solicitor, 'attended in support of a petition of - settlers at Orepuki who held land under " The Mining (Districts Land Occupation Act, 1894.'' He stated that inert holding these .inininj* licenses ,are subject to great disadvantages owing to the action of miners in breaking down fences, leaving gates open, and land taken up by water races, and their liability to loss^of stock in water races. — Held over lot a full meeting of the board. The Assistant Surveyor-general forwarded a, copy of Mr Matthews's (chief forester) report on sections 376 to 380, Forest Hill Hundred, which, inter alia, recommends that the sectiJlis be re- — moved from the State Forest Act, and a similar area of open tussock laud be reserved elsewhera for tree planting. — Resolved , that the Government be requested to remove the forest reservation from all sections south of the road at Lora stream. ' ' The secretary of the Otago School Commissioners' wrote re 150 acres Crown land on pastoral lease run 208, Wairaki, leased by the Otago School Commissioners, stating, that the commissioners have applied to the Government to have the area vested in the commissioners as a reserve for primary educational purposes! — Received. Stronach Bros, and Morris wrote stating that %hey did not desire to hold lease of section 34, (Waimumu Hundred, and adjoining land. — Resolved that the land be re-classified as pastoral land and offered at Id per acre per annum for a term of 10 years.
