It is, said that the New Zealand Colleries and Oil Syndicate recently inspected the Fortification Coal Company's mines, with a view to arriving at the value and extent of the property. It is expected that the result will be that the syndicate will make an offer for the property to the Fortification, Company, and if the offer is accepted the syndicate will work the mine to supply steaming coal, and the Kaitangata mines for household coal. — Bruo© Herald* - - <•
" Two ox three years ago the Department of Agriculture planted a few acres of its reserve at Wairarigi, between Auckland and Hamilton, with -vines, for the piirpose of ascertaining whether similar land -in various parts of the Waikato was adapted for viticulture.- The experiment has been a pronounced success. The vines have grown in a wonderful manner, and' it is the intention of the department to reserve next year's crop of grapes for winemaking.
