£1850 is the amount in stakes given at the Manawatu Summer meeting. Maro, engaged in the hack races at Wanganui, is by Lebel — Duras (dam of Lasting), ai)d is trained by Jervis George.

The Egmont Racing Club has lodged an appeal against the Taranaki Jockey Club's decision in the Minerva II case. The former club recently disqualified Jas. Beckett and Michael M'Aulifie for two years, from February 15, 1900, in connection with the mare Minerva 11, who had been disqualified by the Australian J.C. for racing at a pony meeting. The Taranrki Club refused to uphold the verdict of the Egmont Club, which now appeals. The case will be heard in Wellington on October 6th.

The Ashurst-Pohangina Racing Club gives £650 in stakes at its annual meeting as follows : Trial Hurdles £65, Flymg Handicap £65, Ashhurst Guineas £105, Stewards' Stakes £60, Xoniako Welter Handicap £70, Pohangina Handicap £95, Farewell Scurry £60, Manawatu Gorge Handicap £310. Last season the Spring -meeting of the Waipawa; County Racing Gaib was- -held on 9th November, when fair fields contested 'the events. . on the programme. This season the meeting was extended over two days, and the starters averaged about four per race. In several events only 'the placed horses started, and in one event. it was a match. The same state of tilings seems to have prevailed at Geraldine. In issuing totalisator permits the Colonial Secretary or Racing Conference surely never intended that every little country district that was fortunate enough to get a permit should extend it over two days. This is a rnattei that should be settled by the next Racing Conference on the recommendation of metropolitan clubs. The amount put through the totalisator during the two days was £2500, an increase. of £339 on the one-day fixture last season. Eau de Vie (by Jet d'Bau) paid seven supporters £22 2s in the Trial Hack Handicap. Mr T. H Lowry started the well-bred Casablanca (St. Leger — Bianca) in this race, but he shaped badly. Mr W. Rathbone also ran Mrs Crawley, by Stockvillc — Mrs Rawdon, a four-year-old who finished out of a place. She is a half-sister to Crawley. Stockville was irnrorted from Sydney, and is by Stockwell (Henchman — Lady Lilliard), winner of the A.J.C. Epsom Handicap and Summer Cup, who died recently. Moifaa ; Natator — Denbigh), who won the first Hack Hurdles, ran in the ownership of Mrs Alf. Ellingham, and was ridden by Douglas Watt, who i-ides Moifaa' s half-sister Ruby. The much-raced Daphne (Forerun~r— Violet) won a- race for Mr J. T. Blake,- whose colours are Jioue too fortunate. -He, however, won a doublewith Passion Fruit (Douglas— Lady Jane),, who has not long been leased from his breeder, Mr Allan M'Lean. Will-o'-the-Wisp was not ntartsd at the meeting- on account of having injured one of his hoofs. The Bulls-trained Roer- won the Electric Handicap in good style. ' ■Seahorse's half-sister Mongonui (by Carbine) imade hei reappearance in this race, andftnishad in the ruck. Mr W. Rathbone won the Maiden Hack Race with Assayer, a thiee-year-oia gelding by imp. Gold Rpff— Thyra, by Robinson Crusoe. Assayer is \"*gpged in the Hawke's Bay Guineas, and is the first of the progeny of Gold Reef to win. The lot he beat were certainly not much class. Len. Robinson was taking matters rather easy in the Flying Handicap, "and Donovan got up in the last stride, and secure*! the verdict. Mrs E. Shearsby's West Guard (Vanguard—Sou'wester mare), trained by Alf Shearsby, got a win the second day. Two of the four starters in the Hurdle Race ran off. Wai'tio (by Kaiwaka) put down Moifsa, and paid £8 4s. The Miner, who has been kept going all the winter, scored twice on the second day, when ridden by Geo. Price. Perhaps it was the poor class of the opposition and his light j'-m-ost that enabled him to keep in front. Bt "• '.c D'Eau was raced twice each day unsuccessfully. Coolgardie, a membe- of the Derringer— Virginia family, accounted foi the Hi^h-weight Handicap after running off in the Hurdles.
