The balance sheet of the South British. Insurance Company for the year ended 31sfc August shows a profit for the year of £36,192_ 12s 4d. After £4000 has been added to the reinsurance fund, including the balance brought forward from the previous year, the amount at the credit of the ) profit and lo&s account is £57,274 14s 10d', out of which the following appropriations have b?en ' made : — Interim dividend in April last, £6462 16s ; sinking fund, Auckland leasehold, £75 ; written off office furniture, £380 lls 8d ; depreciation of sundry securities, £250 ; added i to reserva fund, £20,000. The dividend to be- paid in October will absord £6462 16s, leaving £23,643 lls 2d to be carried to the newaccount.

The Marlborough Express states that the demand for copies of the evidence taken by the Stoke Orphanage Commission has been so great that they are no longer procurable.
