Dunedin. ■&. M. MARSHALL, Marshall's, Chemical Company (Limited), Dunedin. Engineer to Syndicate: F. W. PAYNE, Government Life Insurance Buildings, Princes street, Dunedin. the Zealandia Syndicate was organised for the purpose of thoroughly^ testing by boies, shafts, etc., areas oi auriferous land situate on the West Coast of New Zealand and elsewhere. In order to carry this out properly, up-to-date plant was obtained and three experts engaged, each a specialist in his own department. Mr John Don, loiig and favourably known as a careful and leliable mining expert, was entrusted with the work of supervising shaft-sink--ing and gaining knowledge of the wash and its gold contents. Mr K. K. Sligo, who takes up •all the Syndicate's options, first goes carefully over each one himself and then in, company with, his colleagues, to determine if it will justify further expense in the way of systematic prospecting. When an option has bson takeii over, Mr A,lex. Sligo, a boring .expert, first takes it in hand, and. bores it in several places for depth ofwash, nature of bottom, etc. Xf it is possible to do so, shafts are put down, nnd a good general average of the value of the ■wash, is secured. If this is not practicable then a number of open cuts arc made to water level r and value' of upper wash ascertained, and' the boring rods are then used to get value of same io main bottom. _ T-he' Syndicate have now a lai-ge staff of practical working miners engaged, all of /svhorn are -well acquainted with .the local features of the country being prospected, "and their knowledge is often of great assistance to the* experts when 4 determining the value of a claim for dredging. Numbers of options have been refused by the Syndicate's experts, on account of poorness of letutns in some cases, and in others on account of the great cost that would have to be incurred in forming roads for transport of machinery, ■coals,- etc., and in clearing the areas of growing tiniber. Persons having claims are invited to write to the Secretary for terms for prospecting same and putting on the market. Only areas that will stand the most rigid inspection will be taken over by this Syndicate for thio purpose. Arrangements are now being made whereby it is expected that the Companies lately floated by this Syndicate will be "able to get dredges on their claims within nine months from date of signing contract. This time may possibly be shortened, but it is confidently anticipated that it will not be exceeded. At present several highly auriferous blocks held under option are being thoroughly prospected, and will at some future datebe placed on the market if found suitable for dredging. Investors are, therefore, iavited to write to the Syndicate's Brokers for further information re these claims. Reports on mining properties on the West Coast can now be furnished by any of the Company's experts. For terms, etc., apply to the Sec-etary, Dunedin Office. 9ju
