This stallion is by the imported horse Lord Salisbury, and is well i known throughout the province as one exceu- ■ tionally -well bred -and of rare merit, as wilt be seen front the following pedigree : — Hat- | field ia r bright hay, 'rising five years, and standing 16 hands 2£in. Emerald II was exhibited sis -fcirneg,; and* was awarded five first prizes and- raiei'-sbdbnd prize at Oamaiu, Tmiaru, Christchurch, and Dunedin. Lord Salisbury is without doiibt the best horse that ever left Scotland. lie was by Young Conqueror (959)', dam Darling' (64), 1 Tintosk, g dam Jean, by Surprise (846), Young Conqueror (959), by Conqueror (196), dam Maggie, by Lord Clyde (477). Conqueror (198) won first prizes and silver medals at Glasgow in. 1870 and 1871, the Wington premium in 1872, the Leshvnagow premium in 1573. He was by Renfrewshire Jock (696), dam Jess, by Prince Lofty (455), by Farmer's Fancy (173), by Bloomfield Champion (95), by G-lancer II '(337), by, G-lancer (336). by G lancer, alias Thomson's Black Horse (335). Lord Salisbury (2205) was never beaten, and was awarded the following prizes: — As a yearling, first at Ayr, 1576; in 1877, as a two-year-old, first and the champion medal at Kilmarnock, first at Dairy, first afc Ayr. first at Glasgow, first at the Eoyal Show at Liverpool, and first at the H.S. show at Edinburgh; in 1881 he was first at Dunedin; first and champion at Dunedin, 18S3, 1884, 1885, 18S6, 1887; first and champion at the Taieri in 1883, 18S4, and 18S5. Young Banker, by The Banker, took first prize as a yearling at the Johnston Show iii 1875, and fourth prize at- Highland Society's Show m the same year. At Glasgow Show in 1876 he stood second, and afterwards gained the first prize in his class at Dumbarton and Kilbride Shows.. Young Banker has never been beaten in the southern hemisphere. Young Banker's sire, The Banker, began his premium career by taking third at the Highland So--ciely at Edinburgh when one-year-old. When, two he was jixsjk at the Renfrewshire Society's Show: also first at Bishopton and third at the Maryhill — open to Scotland. When three years old ha was third at Glasgow Open Show ; when four years old he gained the Morayshiro premium of £60 ; when five years old he pained the Haddington premium of £50 and fourth prize ai the Highland Society at Stirling. The Banker was sire to the first ond second premiums among the fillies in- the. two-year-old class for County of Renfrewshire Agricultural Show in 1874 against a large entry of first-class fillies. The one got by him and winner of the first premium was sold at" 200 guineas. j The Banker's Sara was got by that famous horse Rob "Soy. 1 -She gained premiums afc Whitburn and Linhth&ow. The Banker was bred by Mr Johnstone, banker, Bathgate. His siie was that famous horse Admiral, who gained the Mid-Galder premium of £60. He was brother to The General, and was sire to thai unprecedented Clydesdale stallion Prince of Wales. Young Banker's dam is a purebred i Clydesdale mare. She gained first prize at Johnstone Sho-,v foil aged riiares in 1873, and first in the same class at Dumbarton, and in 1871 she gained the first jDrize at Dumbarton and at Johnstone for brood mares (open to all Scotland). Mr Tisdale ia,to be congratulated on having 7 secured such an excellent 'staliion, which will undoubtedly tend to improve the draught stock of the district, and farmers, throughout Middlemarch will no doubt appreciate Mr Tisdale's enterprise in securing such a purebred stallion for the district
