A Wellington telegram states that it lias been decided that the reduction of the carrying rates on flax to London by the various Home trading companies to 60s per ton shall remain good until the end of October. At Port Chalmers on Wednesday Messrs Jomes Samson and Co. offered at auction, under instructions from Mr A. Douglas, section 2£6, Laing sLreet, Port Chalmers, with a five-roomed dwelling house. The property was purchased by Mr Peter John Shea for £230. * Messrs Price Brothers report, under date London, July 3 : — The prospects for the coming butter season continue exceedingly good. We are quite a month behind in our home supplies. The high prices ruling for Dutch butter, which show a margin of 10s over ethers, induce quick sales, consequently there will be much less butter stored than was the case last year. With the prospect of reduced shipments from several other producing centres, Australian butter should open very high, and we think there is every prospect of high figures ruling throughout the season. The advance in freight which has taken place recently between Australia and London is a serious matter for farmers. Messrs A. W. Sandford and' Co., of Adelaide, referring to the advance of 10s per ton, remark : — Compared with last year, it means more than 3d a Irashel less for the producer, so that, even if the world's markels were to improve further, the advancing tendency of freights must counteract, to a considerable extent, any advantage in price.* The Egmont Farmers' Union, Limited, reports under date fxawexa, August 6: — We held a clearing sale on the Ist on account of Mr A. Webber, of the Bird road, Stratfoid. All cows and heifers near profit caused keen competition, whilst backward and doubtful calves were hard to quit. At the Glover road yards, on the 2nd inst., we lifd a fair yarding of stock. There was a largo attendance, and Lidding was spirited from start to finish, resulting in nearly every pen of slock changing hands at the hammer. Fat bullocks (light weights) £6 to £6 2s 6d, forward bullocks £5 to £5 11s 6d, fat cows £4 to £4 9s, fat heifers £3 15s to £4 6s, 18-month heifers £1 18s to £2 7s, heifers in calf £3 7s 6d to .-64, springers £4 to £5 2s 6d, store cowa £2 10s to £2 17s 6d, weaners £1 Is to JB! 69.
