The wool sales have closed. There was strong competition, but prices were unchanged.

Compared with March the closing rates ■for good merinos declined 5 per- cent., faulty 10 per cent., fine crossbreds 5 to 7-| per cent., medium and low crossbreds 5 per cent. During the sales 138,000 bales were catalogued, of which 69,000 were sold for home consumption, 50,000 for the Continent, and 3000 for America, while 166,000 ■bales were carried forward. The arrivals for the fourth series is 154,000 'bales, while 38,000 were forwarded to manufacturers. The quantity available is 283,000.

Messrs Dalgety and Co. have received the following cable from their London office, dated the 19th inst.:. — "Wool sales have closed very firm, with an occasional improvement on opening rates."
