The notes in circulation total £29,349,000; public deposits, £8,616,000; other deposits, £40,905,000; Government securities, £14,520,000 ; other securities, £31,234,000. Wheat. — The markets are dull and quiet. There are favourable crop reports from America. Victorian wheat, (prompt delivery) is quoted: Cargoes, '29s 3d; parcels, > 28s 6d.

Oats. — New Zealand ordinary, 23s 6d. Beans, 32s 6d. Victorian peas, 27s 6d. ' Copper: Firm. Spot, £73 10s ; three months, £734. Pig "iron, £69 10s. Lead, £17. Spelter,. £21 i. Sugar is firm. German, 10s 6d; Java, unquoted. Hemp : The market is dull. Fair Wellington (May- July shipment), £25 10s. Colonial rabbits are very dull at 7^d. Five thousand crates of the consignment by the Salamis are rotten, and have been condemned. The American visible wheat supply is estimated at 63,602,000 bushels. Tin: Spot, £135; three months, £134. The .wool sales included the following clips : Oporae, 6-kl ; Tili, B£d; Willara, 18£ d. Silver, 2s 3 9-16 d per oz. May -20. Frozen Mutton. — Crossbred wethers and maiden eives : Canterbury 4-id ; Dunedin and Southland 4£d and 4-fd, North Island 4£d. Lamb. — Prime Canterbury 52d, fair average (including Dunedin, Southland, Wellington, secondary Canterbury) s|d. New Zealand beef, 1801b to 2201b, fair average quality — ox forequarters 3d, hindquarters 3|d. River Plate crossbred or merino wethers 4|d. At the kauri gum 'auctions 4096 cases were offered and, 2500 sold; good to fine qualities are unchanged, t4iree-quarter scraped £120.
