HAWKE'S BAY.

Acceptances for this meeting were notdue .until last night, so I have had to write without them. The suggestions that First Blood may win the Autumn Handicap, Ruby the Hurdles, The Weaver the Welter, Impregnable the Scurry, Canopus the Hack Race, Kissmary the Nursery Handicap, and Cuirasette the Railway Stakes — these are simply cold-blooded guesses, probably as near to the winners as a studied consideration would be, but guesses all the same. As to the Hawke's Bay Cup. a. mile and a-half, I expect a limited field. Boreas', Douglas, Advance, Daunt, Pitch and Toss, and Tire are all doubtful starters, and, < it being quite useless to try to sort out the field, I rest content with the remark that Tortulla 9.4- and Skobeloff 7.7 are a likely pair. In the mile and a-half at Wanganui, Advance had 8.5, giving Skobeloff 111b. In this Hawke's Bay Cup there is a difference of 271b, or an allowance of 161b for the Wanganui result. On these terms Skobeloff ought to beat Advance or eke give up Cup compa^"-.
