LONDON, March 12.
During the battle at Driefontein a larga Boer commando hoisted the white flag, in. order to escape from the effects of the British artillery fire while they were retreating across the open veldt with a squadron of our cavalry hovering on their flank. Wh'en the flag was hoisted the British troops advanced, expecting the Boers' surrender, when another section of the enemy volleyed, deliberately and .repeatedly, wounding a number of the British.
The British ran short of ammunition on Saturday owing to their having to relieve the infantry of the weight -in order to facilitate their inarching. LONDON, March 13.
Lord Roberts has reached Ventersolci, 15 miles from Bloemfontein. He succeeded in turning the position held by 12,000 Boers Avith 18 guns on kopjes commanding thei road to
