SALE OF THE PUREBRED CLYDESDALE STALLION HERD LADDIE.

Messrs.Wright, Stephenson, and Co. report having sold privately, on account of Mr William Hastie, Allanton, the imported Clydesdale stallion Herd Laddie to Mr John Robinson, of Milton, at a. satisfactory price. Herd Laddie, lately one of the Awamoa stud horses, is cne of the best stock-getting sires in Otago, and, as will be seen from the following, his breeding is unexceptionable: —Herd Laddie was imported from. Scotland by Mr H. Ray, and was aiteiwaids sold to Mr D. Archibald for I the sum of 750gs, and never changed hands until sold to Mr James Blaikie. Herd Laddie (2663 C.5.8.) is a powerful bay horse, foaled on May 14, 1881, bred by Mr John Templeton, St. Quivox, Ayrshire. His sire, Jemrnie Giay (lid); dam Sally (1786), by Baronet (32), who was by New&tead (559), winner of the' Highland Society's first prize at Perth in 1871; grand- , dam Jess, by Prince of Wales (673), who was 1 considered the champion sire of Scotland, where he vised to stand at jBIO per mare. He gained the Highland Society's first prize at Aberdeen in 1869, second at Dumfries in 1870, first at Kelso in 1872, and first at the Royal Society's show at Manchester. He was goL by General (322), winner of the Highland Society's first prize at Inverness in 1865. General, by . Enterprise (231) gained second prize I at Glasgow as a yearling, second at the High- ; land Society's show at Glasgow as a two-year-i old, third at Highland Society's show at Aber- • deen, and second at Glasgow as a three-year-1 old. His sire, Lochfergus Champion (449), out I of Mary of Lochend Champion (441), winner of j the first prize at the Highland Society's show at Perth in 1861, the gold medr.l s>t the same show at Kelso in 1863, the second prize at the Royal Society's great show at Battersea in- ' ,1862, and tke, Glasgow premium in 1865.
