FLORAL FETE.

The final meeting of the Floral Fete Committee was held on Tlvureday evening, at th- ■ Town Hall, Mr C. W. Rattray (chairman) presiding. Mr C. R. Smith (hon. secretary) read the statement of accounts in connection with the fete, showing that the receipts amounted to £1244 Is lid, and the expenses to £182 7s 7d, leaving a balance in aid of the Otago and Southland contingent fund of £1061 14s 4d. The principal iFems of receipts were : Gate receipts and sale of tickets, £94-1 13s 10jd ; tea, and refreshment rooms, £130 8s lOd ; advertisements and rale of programmes, £90 0s 8d ; proportion of Tramway Company's receipts, £60 : sale of flowers, £9 lCs^d ; sundries, £5 17s sd ; prize money refunded, £6 2s 6d. The expenditure consisted of : Printing, £53 8s 6d ; tea and refreshment tents, £32 8s Id ; prize money, £21 17s 6d ; ground preparation, £22 2s 6d ; advertising, £21 8s 9d ; drags and cabs for bands and committee, £10 7b 6d ; cartage, £14 14s 6d ; tents, £3 12s 6d ; sundries, £2 6s 9d. The Chairman, in moving the adoption of the balance sheet, said they, could at least flatter themselves on having produced a record result for New Zealand — which lie ascribed to the splendid organising ability of their secretary. Mr W. Wills, in seconding the motion, expressed his gratified surprise at the remarkable despatch with which the accounts had been gob out, and, while joining in the tribute to the admirable work of Mr Smith, aho eulogised the services performed by Mr Rattray, who had, he s>aid, given a great deal of valuable time to the work connected with the fete. The motion was carried by acclamation. Mr Smith, in acknowledging the complimentary references to his own services, said that he had had the good fortune to be associated with a committee, each member of which had dona his or her work thoroughly. Mr Rattray also eulogifced the manner in which the members had discharged their functions, and, with reference to the share in the work done by tho ladies, raid that whether in regard to the sale of tickets, or the preparation of stands, or tho arrangements for the bicycle ride, or tho, afternoon tea arrangements, the ladies haddone everything most creditably and completely.
