A Banker and the Sabbat's. TO THE EDITOR.

Sir, — In anticipation of your goodness to either publish this or pass it on to "A Banker," I write. Among the various metals which compose his base metal or coin is found, March. 1, Otago "Witness: "This war is rudely forced upon us but as a retribution for national sins, first and foremost of which is the increasing desecration of the Holy Sabbath by multitudes', from high and low." As we are without a Sabbath, how can we be guilty of desecrating it? The Jews were to be without a Sabbath (Hosea ii, 11). The Sabbath was part of that which was engraved on stone (see Exodus and Beiiteronorny), which the Apostle Paul says was done away with (II Cor. iii, from 1 to 11). Hs also tells us to let no man judge us in respect of a Sabbath day (Col. ii, 16). lam afraid "A Banker" is one of those spoken, against in the scripture who make merchandise 'of the Word of God, and also in the 50th Psalm, verses 16 and 17, which says: "But unto the wicked God saith, What hast thou to do .to declare my statutes, and that thou hast taken my covenant in thy mouth, seeing thou hatest instruction and easiest nry word behind thee?" England as a nation is simply working out the work God has chosen for her to do. God is a god of war, working out His will in the armies and nations of the earth, and "A Banker" will some day be ashamed of his visionary teaching, which exists in "Banker's" brain, but not in God's Word. — I am, etc., GAVIN BRIGHTON. In the civil case heard at Port Chalmers on Saturday, 3rd insfc., in which Agnes Lighbourne sued for £6 6s, the defendant was one George Green, and not W. Solomon as was incorrectly staled.

As the captain of the Christchurch Fire Brigade was hurrying to a fire on Friday, a woman stopped him in the street and asked him where the fire was. He named the locality and the occupants, whereat the woman promptly fainted. It was her own home that; was burning. The wattle-stripping season has just come to a close (says the Auckland Star), and apparently a considerable quantity of bark has been taken from the several plantations afc Whangamarino and Wairangi. The season has been an exceptionally favourable one for harvesting the bark, which should be, generally speaking, of excellent quality, as verylittle rain has fallen since stripping pmtxmencei,
