THE TAIERI CLUB.

According to the tieasurer's statement, presented at the annual meeting last week, the Taieri Amateur '±urf Club has made £62 3s Sd on the year's transaction^. It is a simple pum : £27 16s lOd was" the amount brought forward to credit a year ago, and now Mr Churton Las £90 0s 3d to start the new term with. I do not know how the total is arrived at, but even without the figures we can guess the club's position. It is, 1-uiiderstand, struggling to build up a fund with which to erect a .stand. The present balance, £90, is not near enough to wairant the expenditure. But if the club's current year pans out as well as the. last, and if Mr Ohurton can, in a twelvemonth^' time, show £150 in hand, I should say that the club will then be warranted in 'building a platform that can be afterwards roofed in when the money is forthcoming. I am loth to press thy matter, being well aware that the club knows as well as t[ do the urgency of making some provision whereby the people can see the races, instead of jostling for eligible positions against the fence; but in a friendly way I would point out once more that the revenue is suffering for want of proper accommodation. The crowd ask, and the request is not unreasonable, for shelter for the ladies in case of rain, and for a stand whereon to get- a view of the hordes. When these things are provided the attendance will very largely increase — maybe it will double. Meantime I note that the club is ordering two dozen form?, ■for the use, I suppose^ of lrdies. These forms will require to be pretty solid in order to avoid capsizing,, and I hope the club wi-i take cure to prevent them being rushed by the boys. At the meeting held last week the election of office-bearers resulted as follows : President, Mr C. J. Gere : vice-presi-dent, Mr J. A. Duff : stewards, Messrs R. Todd, W. Smith. "W. Eok, J. O'Donnell, D. Davidson. JR.. Green, J. Koss, G. Huthven, P. Sinclair, T. Akhen, J. Hislop ; judge, Mr W. Smith ; treasurer, Mr R . Churton : secretary, i>lr W. Carncross : starter, Mr J. Gri»dley ; handicapper, Mr G. Dowse ; timekeeper. Mr W. J. Gore ; clerk of course, Mr D. Davidson; clerk of teaks, Mr E. Green; auditors, Dr Alan and Mr H. H. Inplis. Thepe are trie old ofiicers, and I am satisfied thai they are al! competent men.
