Mayor of Gisborne, at the request of a? number of residents, -has telegraphed' to the Premier complaining of inacciiracies in the Agent-general's cables, especially that giving the number of Boers in the field-' and the British and Boer losses. Mr Seddon replied as folloArs : — " Your telegrani received. In the main the Agentgeneral's information has proved correct. His statement of the loss some time ago was ultimately borne out by official information. We cannot judge at this distance ; therefore we ..should- not come, to • hasty "conclusions. ' I have reason to be- - ' lieve" that he gets his information from a very good source."'

CONGRATULATORY. AUCKLAND, March 5. Mr Chamberlain cabled to Lord Raniurly:- - " 'Thanks for your congratulations on successes ••- in South Africa, to which New Zealand has largely contributed.
