HIGH SCHOOLS BOARD OF GOVERNORS.

The monthly meeting- of the Otago High Schools Board of Governors was held on Monday afternoon, there being present — Dr Brown (chairman), the Rev. Mr Hewitson, the Mayor (Mr R. Ciiisholm), Messrs G. G. Riis-ell and J. R. Sinclair.

The statement of finances showed that the board were in a better position by some £300 than they were in at the same time last year, this amrrunt being exclusive of special receipt.) during- the year. •

j\lr G. Sherriff having- noli Sad his willingness to teach a class in applied mechanics for one hour each week, was appointed teacher of the clasp at an addition to his present salary. The Registrar of the University wrote notifying that the council had appointed Dr Shand and Mr G. G. Russell their representatives on the Bor.vd of Governors.

The Lady Principal reported that four pupils from the girls' school entered for the junior university Fcholaiship. A. Budd gained a scholarship, IJ.1 J . Jonas and T. Woodhouse passed with credit, and J. Humphrey qualified for matriculation. Eight girl,-; entered for and paved the matriculation examination. Ada Patcrson entered for the senior civil pervice and raised, and Chrielina Wilkinson and A. Peter.-on pafs3d the junior civil service. Three sat for tho Education Board's examinations, and gained senior scliolarohips. Foriy-one pupils had been entered this term, and 40 had left.

The Secretary .stated that there were 13 more pupils in the girls' school and 15 less in the boys' this term Vian at the close of last term. The boys' boardinghouse had one boarder to the good, and the girls' was also one to the good.
