COMPENSATION COURT.
WELLINGTON, March 5.
The award of the Compensation Court in the matter of a claim of £14,500 made by Messrs M'Lean Bros, for the deprivation of their freehold and leasehold interests on Kapiti Island 'and for damages for loss through the forced sa,le of stock, etc., through the Government taking over the island, was announced this afternoon by the Chief Justice. The claimants were awarded £1125, each party to pay their own costs, and also their own assessor's fee. The fee of each assessor was lixed at £21. The court stated that it would not allow claimants anj' costs on account of the excessive amount of their claim.
