— The Victorian Poultry and Kennel Club's report shows that the finances are in a most satisfactory condition notwithstanding heavy and unforeseen calls upon the club. A substantial balance is lying to the credit of the club. The club reports that the number of dogs imported during the past year was 32 in all, but, unfortunately, very few in the list can lay claim to high credentials from a show point of view. Still, amongst these few there are some fair performers, and several remarkably well-bred sires who have already prove 1 their value in the old country. Several puppies sired by these importations have already made their appearance. The list includes three Japanese spaniels, two bulldogs, five fox terrier.-,, one Skyo terrier, ono Dandio Dinmonl, two St. Bernards, four collies, ono Scotch terrier, eight fox hounds, one Airednlo terrier, ono blsiek and lan terrier, ono greyhound bitch and puppies', and one Yorkshire terrier (nhiee dead). — The Czar possesses the largest Danif-h hound in exigence. He has mado a pot of tliis eroadiiv, and places such confidence in its yagacily Hint ho dinni^es any servant to whom (ho dog (:<ko<* a dislike. The monarch concludes lhi\l Iho hound's aversion, indicates thiit Iho man i^ a probable onemy hims-elf. —An accident has removed a danger to the bos>t Irish terriers in the /ing. Scarlet Lancer has been run o\ei and killed. This was one of the smartest of his breed ; there was none of his competitors so good as not to feel nervous when he entered the ring, and when

the deceased won the beaten dogs were nofc disgraced. Scarle.t Lancer was a champion, born June, 1898, bred by his owner who now! mourns his loss, by the grand old stud dog,Bolton Wood Mixer. Mr Simpson brought him out at Inverness in September, 1898 ; hia last appearance was at the Crystal Palace when Mr Krehl could find only John Riddi to put over him. So it will be seen that thff dog had a short 13 months' career, but in that time he won many prizes; his name was inscribed several times on the I. T. C. 'Challenge and Breeders' Cups. Scarlet Lancer was a nice size and so good all round that he mades criticism difficult. We are very sorry for Mr* Sirftfc*<*!«, who has lost a splendid little dogand a capital pal. The breed could ill spare Scarlet Lancer, ss good specimens are scarce, — Stockkeeper.

—At the annual meeting 1 of the Albury, Collie Club the balance-sheet, read by Mr D. Stewart, showed a credit balance of £23 with. £7 outstanding. It was cfecided to hold the, club trials on the usual date, 24th May, wherr the Queen's Birthday excursions would bo. available. After revising the past year's programme, it was decided that the services o{ last year's officers as far as practical be sought. A programme as follows was drafted: — Class I, Huntaway — Spme as previous year, withf a recommendation to the Ground Committee that the flags denning course face more directly uphill, with the view of giving more clean hunting out and less slowing work todog. Class 11, Yarding — Same as previously, but time limited to 11 minutes. Class III— -In. this event the time points ' and dis-> tances were not altered, but, thanks to the munificence of two private! individuals. the commanding sums ofi 20(?s Ist, lOgP 2nd, 6gs 3rd, 2gs 4th, and 1 guinea slh prizes were allowed. Class IV, fotf youths under 18 years, same as last year. An 1 additional event was added. A farmer's paddock competition for non-shepherds, lnustterers, drovers, or previous .winners, prizes £4, £2, ancl £1 respectively for Ist, 2nd, and 3rd. _ Points— Command 12, style 12, yardingj 6 : time 10 minutes.
