Our Arrowtown writes on the 14th: — "Dr. and Mrs Thomson, who aie about leaving on a nine months' tour to Europe, vreie entertained at :i farewell social on Tuesday evening at the Anow Athenraum. A very laige timber of friends met to bid the voyagers a pleasant journey and a safe return. J)r Thomson, as j siugeon to the Arrowtown Hospital and as 1 general medical man for the whole chstiict, has, during a stay of nearly fiv years, gained a high reputation as a skilful practitioner, strengthened by an i imbou.ided .kindness and unremitting attention to the cases under ihs charge. As a citizen the doctor has secured a leading position, and, being still a young man, scored many brilliant successes on the cricket field. In Mis Thomson every good cause promoted for the well-being of the residents always had an energetic and consistent supporter, while her practical good sense £>nd mbom kindness 1 won her the homage and goodwill of all. It is, therefore, not too much to say that £)r and Mrs Thomson carry with them the hearty good wishes of the whole community. During the evening Mrs Thomson was presented with a splendid travelling rug, while the doctor wa3 [ the recipient of an album of choice and wellselected' AVakatipu views. Dr M'Biearty, oi G-reymoulh, who comes well recommended, ancl 1 who has already produced a favourable impression, will fill Dr Thomson's place during his ' absence." i A Scotch corps of volunteers is in course o , organisation at Wanganui.
