A PRAYER.

(February 11, 1900.) Thou God of battles, Thou who didst of old Go with the people when they met their foes ; Raising Thine arm, omnipotent, in their behalf, To smite their enemies or shield their hosts. Thou God, whose power to smite or save, we own ; Go with our armies now, through heal of fire — Through hidden dangers — up the fearful steeps Whence foes are hurling fierce destruction down. Be with their leaders — counsel Thou each one ; For Thine eyes, Lord, are running to and fro O'er all the earth, and so thou knowest each step, And where it leads. Thou knowest all the way That they should take. Then give them wisdom, Lord; And gird with might our ranks. Fight Thou with them — And not against — for who can stand 'gainst Thee When Thou dost rise in majesty of wrath To deal forth judgment and command forth praise ? Oh ! bo a Power upon the battlefield — A tender comfort m each son owing home. —MARIAN CAMPBELL RIDDLE.
