It is expected (days the Post* that trawling will be commenced under the direction of Mr Aysou, chief inspector of fisheries, within a few weeks. The arrangements for the purchase of a suitable bo.it ,■»•<» almost completed. The locality of the trawling operations has not yet been decided upon. _ A flying-fish wa< caught the other day on the rocks at Little Port Cooper by some ehiJdrpn. The fish measured 14in in length, and the full spread of its wings, from tip to tip, Mas ISin. It is a very rare thing to see a flying-fish in tire neighbourhood of Lyttelton Heads, and thip specimen has been sent to the Canterbury Museum. Thousands of dead fish are lying in the bed of the Ngakavau River (pays the Westport Times). The fish are from three to four inches long, how they- died in such great numbers is a mystery.
