WELLINGTON, February 12. — The Aotea, which sailed for London yesterday morning, returned to port this morning. "A fire had broken out in the engine room, but ' was quickly extinguished. Some time after- j wards the fire broke out again. The fire j started on top of the starboard boiler. The principal damage is to the Howden patent draught apparatus, which was melted. Some woodwork was also burned, but the machin- ; cry was not hurt and the fire was well away from the cargo. The repairs will probably cost some hundreds of poiuids, and will occupy three or four days. The s.s. Waihora steamed down to Port Chalmers on the 6th, and left in the afternoon for Sydney, via Auckland. The s.s. Moura went down to Port Chalmers on the 6th, where she will undergo an overhaul. The Tyser steamer Indralema will load wool and other cargo at PorJ Chalmers, from which port she is to sail for London direct about the 16th inst. The s.s. Zealandia, from Melbourne, via Hobart and the Bluff, arrived at the cross wharf at 8.30 a.m. on the 7th. She left Melbourne on the 31st ult. The s.b. Undaunted, now at the Bluff, is expected to load at Dunedin. She is a steel vessel of 3159 tons gross, and 2026 tons net. The s.s. Elingamite, from Sydney, via A\ickland and East Coast ports, arrived at Port Chalmers at 7 o'clock on Sunday evening. The Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company s ship Wellington was towed from Port Chalmers to sea on Saturday afternoon, and sailed for £ imaru, at which port she is to load for London. The Shire Lino Company's splendid steamship Banffshire, from London, via Australian and New Zealand ports, arrived at Port Chalmers at 1 p.m. on Sunday, and was berthed at the ocean steamers' wharf, where she will take in cargo for London. The Banffshire is still under the command of Captain Stewart. The ship Auckland was towed up from the lower Harbour on Monday and berthed at the Victoria wharf. The s.s. Waikare left for Melbourne, via the Bluff and Hobart, on Monday afternoon. Tho s.s. Banffshire commenced .taking in
