CLEARING SALE AT IVANHOE DAIRY

Messrs Wright, Slephenson, and Co. report having held a. clearing sale of Mr John Chisholm's Ivanhoe Farm, near Eclendale, together with all his live and dead stook, on Thursday, 21st inst. A3 regards weather, the day could hardly have beei ■worse. The Tain carve clo-wn in torrents the whole day, and if it had bser possible to spoil the sale, the day would have spoilt it. The reputation of Mr Chisholm'a stock, however, overcame the weather, and the result was that, although tho usual crowd of onlookers was absent, there was a very good attendance cf buyers, and an excellent sale. The condition in which the stock was turned out was a credit to Mr Chisholm himself, and a proof of the excellence of the pastures on his farm. The farm itself was offered first, but was passed in. Private negotiations are now going on, and it is probable that a sale will lesult shortly. The dairy herd of 60 splemlid cows, majiy of them crossbred Jerseys, was next offered, and, although the milking season is half over, the cows were known to be so good that there was great competition throughout. The following are some of the prices obtained: — JEIO ss, £8 15s, £8 2s 6d, JS7 10s, £7 ss, two at £7. two at £6 17a 6d, six at £6 15s, six at £6 10s, £6 ss, four at £6, £5 17s Gd, tluee at £5 12s 6d, two at £5 10s, four at £o ss, five at £5. The draught horses were in grrnd fettle, and sold well, a pair of fine geldings bred by Mr Chisholm (one 'seven and the other five years old) bringing £47 and £49, respectively. For the large lot of pigs there was good competition up to a point, but the recent fall in values for this class of stock prevented prices being aa high as they would have been a few months ago. The large array of implements, harne.sS, and sundries was then put through, the chipf items of interest in these being tiie beautiful httle Hornsby Ackroyd oil engine, which was sold to Mr M'Donald, of Limchills, for £70.
