THE CAPE CABLE.

MELBOURNE, December 23. The acting maaiager of the Eastern Extension Cable Company has urged the Postmaster-general to give the company a definite answer re the Cape cable proposal. In addition to the ether concessions, the company agree that the points where the cable is landed shall be settled in consultation with the military authorities, with a view to protecting the shore ends by a fixed defence.

It is stated that Victoria and New South Wales are the only colonies that have not accepted the offer. Mr Watt has promised a reply as soon as Parliament meets.
