THE KHALIFA'S DEFEAT.
DETAILS OF THE BATTLE. CAIRO, December 2. Details of the Gedid fight, at which the Khalifa was killed and his force routed, are now to hand. Major-general Wingate's brigade of six Maxims was irresistible. The dervishes began to retire, but found escape hopeless. The Khalifa spread his sheepskins to await death, seated amidst his emirs. The Khalifa was shot through the head, hearty
and limbs. His emirs were equally riddled. The Egyptian troops swept over them, unaware of the Khalifa's fate until informed. ■ Major-general Wingate recovered tht'^ Khalifa's body.
