THE N.Z. TURF REGISTER.

The ninth yearly volume of this work since it has been taken in hand by the staff of the Weekly Press and Referee has made its appearance sharp to time, and once more I have much pleasure in complimenting the publishers and the editor on the promptness of publication and the general appearance of the book. More legible than Ruff's Guide, better printed, and equal in get up to anything in the world, we ought to be proud of our Register. And tho smartness displayed in getting it out is not the result of rush ; it is due rather to systematic effort in keeping the matter "close up" throughout the year. This is a point of material consequence. Whatever care be taken, if such a is hurried at the finish there will be mistakes. TJnder the wise guidance of the Referee staff only seven errors, and these of an unimportant character, are acknowledged, and so far I have not eeon any unacknowledged ones. The Register contains a full report of the 156 race meetings which constituted tho 1898-99 programme ; and the subordinate articles, dealing with winners of principal races, entries for coming events, racing statistics, registered colours, bloodstock sales, and rules of racing are complete and reliable, making the publication invaluable to the racing man who deems it worth while to know anything of the national sport.
