NORTH OTAGO JOCKEY CLUB

The annual meeting of the North Otago Jockey Club took place at the secretary's office on Wednesday of last week. The prepident, Mr J. F. Reid, occupied the chair, and there was a good muster of members also present. The balance sheet for the past year, vas read, showing a credit .balance to profit and loss of £128 7s 3d. The annual report; was read, as follows : —"Your committee congratulate tho members on the improved state of the club's finances, and the committee hseve to acknowledge this as largely due to the exertions of Messrs O. R. Wise, H. H. I*. Mitchell and others, who, when your committee, after the non-success of the springmeeting, were about to give up in despair, threw their energies into the services of theclub, and by their exertions raised a sufficient . sum of money to ensure the committee against, any loss should 'they hold a winter melting.. Owing to the increased numbei of members,, due to the canvass of the above named gentlemen, your committee resolved that at theannual meeting, instead of, as according tothe club's rules, only six commit--teemen retiring, they should retire as a whole, so as to enable the increased membership to be thoroughly lopresentative. During the past year theraoing track has been fenced on each side, thus enabling the committee to keep both the racing and training track in first-class order. Your committee have had to pay £96 9s 3d towards this work, which the oommitlee hope the trustees will refund when they have sufficient funds on hand. Your committee have also had lockers placed in the jockeys' room, for the convenience of jockeys and safety t)£ " their property. Your committee trust that, now that the membership is so much increased, the club will continue to have a continuation of successful meetings, such as during the first year 3of its existence, and to secure - this end it only requires the combined efforts of each member." The President expressed' his satisfaction at the large attendance, whick was a marked contrast to previous annual meetings, at some of which a bare quorum was present. He hoped they would continue to show their interest in the club, and that it would then 6oon take up its former position. He had much pleasure in moving the adoption of the report. Mr G-.
