HAWKE'S BAY.

At a meeting of the Hawke's Bay Land Board held at Gisborvja on Saturday last an old soldier named William Daly appeared anil entered a- vigortras protest against the forfeiture of his section in one ol* the village settlements, for non-payment of rent. It appeared Daly's interest on an advance from the Government Advances to Settlers department was overdue, and was paid into the. post office, but before it was received the department had taken action, and the section was forfeited. The board told Daly he must give up possession. He informed them in the most spirited manner he would hold possession to the bitter end, and if any man came to put him out he would blow his brains out. Honourable men had lent their money on the property, and he intended to see them right. He would give it up, but would die like a man aiid soldier that he was.

The return of frozen meat exported for the past half-year shows that Gisborne is the fourth port in the colony in the extent of its output of meat, and the" exports of mutton exceeded those of Napier, being 6,979,4051b, as against 6,953,1461b from Napier.
