Health Notes.
The most important remedy in anosmia, from whatever cause it may arise, is, of course, proper diet. This should be rich, nourishing, and more especially composed of those articles which improve the blood, and increase the tone of the nervous system. — Health and Condition.
It may always be looked on as an indisputable fact that there is "no absolute disease of any organ, as in the simple anceinia of young people the cause is remediable by proper food, fresh air, and exercise.
A change in diet, carefully arranged, in ailments due to malnutrition has a most wonderful effect ; it acts as beneficially as a change of air; neglected, it may lead to serious disease, and it is often the startingpoint of consumption. — Health and Condition.
In old age, owing to the vital processes going on within the body being less, the power of^generating heat is less, and the temperature of the body sinks. To compensate for this the clothing should be warm, but, as far as possible, warmth should be combined with lightness, as heavy articles of clothing are apt to be a burden to the aged. — Guide to Health. When people are not sure of the purity of the water which they drink, they should boil it. It is not always safe to rely Tipon niters, however perfect they may appear.
It has been asserted that boiled water <is indigestible; it is not so, provided it be allowed to regain the air which it has lost by boiling. This it does after cooling by being allowed to remain exposed to the open air for 24 hours, as has been lately proved by direct experiments. — Health Notes.
How is it possible to shut the mouth in sleeping? Take the borders of sheets ot postage stamps, and use them as straps for the mouth. Put the straps on just before going to bed. Let the edges of the lips meet nicely before strapping, and then there will be no danger of their separating before morning. This will have the double advantage of training the lips and bringing them into their proper shape. This, too, means a wonderful difference in the personal appearance, which should always count for something. It will also prevent that disagreeable habit, so common with many people, of breathing heavily in sleep.— How To Be Well.
Wash Your Hands. — It has recently been claimed that cases of infection that could be accounted for in no other way have been explained by the fingers as a vehicle. In handling money, especially of papei*, door knobs, banisters, omnibus or tramcar straps, and a hundred things that everyone must frequently touch, there are chances innumerable of picking up germs of typhoid, scarlatina, diphtheria-, smallpox, and so on. Before eating, or touching that which is eaten, the hands should be immediately and scrupulously washed, we hear much about general cleanliness as "next to godliness." It may be added that here in particular it is also ahead of health and safety. The Jews made no mistake in that "except they washed they ate not." It is a sanitary ordinance as well as an ordinance of dp.-
