LOVE'S REQUITAL.

In a dark and dreaiy attic, Shivering with want and cold, Lay a pale-faced little newsboy, Suffering pain untold. Ho was only a little newsboy, Down in the busy town, Yet o'er his gentle face no'er passed An angry look nor sullen frown. And now, is he lay dying, His mother by his side, He whispered softly to her;. " A T o longer can I bide. " I can see the bright-faced angels, I dream I'm by their side; Oh, mother, do coma with me, No longer can I bide." Then the newsboy closed his weary eyes, The mother knelt in prayer, And the angels took the newsboy's soul Up to a home more fair. Jim, with the cheerful, laughing face, And raven, curly hair, Had closed his wearied eyes in death, Saying, " Mother, meet mo there." But she ne'er heard his parting words, Her oyes wero cold and dim ; With open arms, in Heaven above, She welcomed little Jim. — M. July, 1899.
