Half the ships in the world are British. The best of them can be converted into ships of war in 48 houra. The American Army Board is investigating the Cuban claims for damages, which amount in value to 450,000 dollars. Of this sum ifc has allowed 8500 dollars. Among the claims rejected are one for the rent of the battle- - fields and another for the disfigurement o£ fields used temporarily as burial places for soldiers.
