LABOUR MARKET.
Messrs John Skene and Son report under Qate May 16:—Country work is very brisk, and workers have -nothing to complain of. Persons on the lookout for -work can get suited at any time (if not too hard to please). There is a steady demand for ploughmen, rabbit trappers, and farm lads. We quote the following wages. — Married couples, £&5 to JE7S ; ploughmen, 17s 6d to 20s ; station hands, 15s to 17s 6d ; gardeners, 20s to 30s-, blacksmiths, 20s to 40s; shepherds, 20s to 23a; cooks, 15b to 30s; farm and dairy lads (always a good demand), Bs, 10s, 12s 6d, and - IBb. __________________________
