A meeting of creditors in the estate of John Gihnour, butcher, of Port Chalmers, formerly of Balclutha, was to have been held at the office of the official assignee on Monday, but lapsed, as none of the creditors attended.
The Bankrupt's statement showed claims of unsecured creditors amounting to £155 11s, and assets, consisting of book debts, £4-1, estimated to produce nothing. There were no secured creditors, and the principal creditors were: — N.Z.L. and M.A. Company, £24; Clutha Farmers' Co-operative Company (in liquidation), £18; S. Wright (Balclutha), £11; John Hogg (Balclutha), £13; Hogg and lioekuead (Balclutha), £11; Crawford and Chapman (Balclutha), £15 ; Thomson and Co. (Kakanui), £10 ; Hon. M. 'Holmes, £25; and H. B. Crawford (Oamaru), fill.
The written statement of the bankrupt set forth that on the 20th January, 1896, he purchased a business in Balclutha for £41 from Hogg Broß., and that a few months afterwards John Hogg started in opposition to him, and took away many of the original customers. He closed the business in 1897, and with theproceeds of the sale paid off some of his" debts. After that ,he was without employment for six months, and for 12 months earned only 30s •& week. He obtained a situation in January last, and was now earning £2 10s a week. His reasons for filing was that MiJohn Hogg had taken out a judgment sum<nons against him. The meeting was adjourned sine die.
