FICTION ! NO, FACTS.
The Western Mail of Cardiff published a paragraph in its issue of January 16, recording the conviction of a landlord at Pontypool for serving children. It appears that two ..boys,- 11 and 10 years of age respectively, were found in the Masons' Arms, with a pint of beer and a pint of cider in front of them. There were seven other lads in the house. At the Police Court the landlord, Richard Bennet, was fined 40s. How does this case exemplify the statements of "the trade" representatives as given in the three preceding paragraphs? Where is the " genuine morality " shown? Were the beer and cider the " civilising and humanising " agents employed for the "betterment" of the boys?
