Betting-. 7 to 4 "on Lapal. The brindle drew out fully two lengths' for the first turn, and, shooting away nioTe smartly than her opponent, scored second and third points. High Fury' got the next, but Lapal soon joined issue-, and, after a few exchanges, a joint kill left her an. easy winner. This course was well run by the winner. Wild Night beat Bognn. Betting: 5 to 2 ou Wild Night. This was not su satisfactory run up, as a weak hare broke to the left shortly after the pair had been despatched, favouring Wild Night a good deal. Quickly getting on terms with her game, die came round three or four lengths in front, and dashing up still further ahead for the second point, almost instantly btought her teeth into- play, the Australian, who, however, made a clumsy attempt to come round, never getting a squeak. Black Fury boat Real Haydon. Betting: 6 to 4on Black Fnry. A long gap separated this pah- at the turn, and Black Fury coming well round aa pus 9 broko back, went on in clever command, and finished a trial of nice length with a smart kill, without allowing Real Haydon to score. 11. Genetive beat Wild Oats. Hackler beat Boreali3. Father o' Fire beat Westminster. Lapal beat Reepham. a Real Emperor beat Anstrude. j Weather Forecast beat Side by Side. Rare Luck beat Best of Any. Fabet Fortunse beat Chock. Black Fury beat Border Song. Lapal beat Reepham. Betting: 11 to 10 on Lapal. The favourite, quickly into 'her stride, soon drew clear of Reepham, and, reaching her hare a long two lengths in front, came round with great force as pusa broke back. Reepham, on the contrary, made a mess of it, and the brindle thereby obtaining a strong lead for three points, and running a short course with splendid fire, finished a decisive victory with a smart kill. B(ack Fury beat Border Song. Betting- 5 to 2 on Black Fury, The favourite being unsighted for some distance, fell into the Tear, but putting on high pressure still reached the hare a few lengths ahead in a shortish spin, which he ran with great lire, and never allowed Border Song to score.111. Genetive beat Hackler. Lapal bent Father o' Fire. Weather Forecast beat Real Emperor. j Hesper beat Rarp Luck. . Dick Burge boat Weedon. George Tincler beat Peregrine Pickle. Circus Clown beat Caledonia. Black Fury beat Faber Fortunse. Lapal beat Father o Fire. Betting : 6 to 4 011 Father o' Fire. In another pretty stretch Father o' Fire drew out a length and a half, but puss nicking back at the drain, Father o' Fire had to fly it, whilst Lupai came' round just at the edge and dashed to her hare several lengths ahead. Father o' Fire was not long 111 joining, but the bitch, running m decidedly the smarter stylo, continued to have much the better of the course 'for some time* and, made

' two brilliant points by shooting past on the outsider to-~keep> her position. A: toeb hare defied all Lapal's efforts- to kill, getting clear away, and at last Father o' Fire took a forward position, Lapal momentarily hanging. She shot i to the front to break the red collar's sequence, but he got. in again fota few more drives before j Lapal finished with a. good kilL The course i was rather closely balanced a,t the finish, but . ! the great merit of it was distinctly Ltapal's-. She ■ ran brilliantly to begin with, and had murdered i Hue- hare- before Father o' Fire had scored his driving points. Black Fuiy beat Faber Fortunte. Betting: 11 to 4_ on Faber ForJunse. It was a tremendous race to the hare, Faber having slightly the best of it to the drain, which he ahot in fine style, whilst Black Fnry jumped rather high ; Faber on the other side immediately showing three-parts of a length ixf front. Puss-, at that point bore strongly to tho right, and Black Fury in a fine spurt shot lip on the inside for ! first turn, coming smartly round in close possesi Eion, and after three fine drives killed without j allowing the favourite to score. IV. \ Lapal beat Genetive. Hesper (a bye), Weather Forecast (dr. lame). George Tinder beat Dick Burge. Black Fury beat Circus Clown. Lapal beat Genetive. Betting: 15 to 8 on •' G-enetive. In a fine stretch Lapal went just the ! faster, and was leading half a length when '• puss bore strongly to the left, enabling Genetive, on the red flag, to. easily take the turn. As nuss broke still further round, however, Lapiil quick as ljghtning changed side's, and shot away with a- lead ot four lengths for tho second point. The hare here broke to the right, giving Genetive another opening, but Lapal, with a fine spurt, shot past on the outside, and I swept again smartly on the scut before finishing a short spin, brilliantly run, with a kill, i " Black Fury beat Circus Clown. Betting: 1 ? to 4 on Black Fury. • This waa- <a poor trial, I an-i Black "Fury, after leading nearly two ler-ghta, coining well round with his hare, easily won a short spin. i ' V - Lapal be»t Hesper. Black Fury beat George Tincler.Lapal beat Hesper. Betting: 9t04 on Lapal. In a, fine stretch Lapal drew out a long two lengths, but puss breaking io\ind before pho got quite on terms, she cut out a- littje, Hesper going up nicely in front for second turn. Lapal, jfhowever, instantly resumed possession as puss ' again swept forward, and though Hesper ex- ! changed one or two more points, she rijade a j sad example of him at- the finish of a fine trial, sweeping "clean away from, him timer after time ■ from sharp angles, and finishing a splendid. I display with a fine kill. ' Black Fury beat George Tinoler. Botting: i 5 to 4 on George Tincler.- Jn another fine stretch down tho Withins, Black Fury drew • tvway a couple ot .lengths^ and' commanding his hare with plenty of power, rattled up eight or nine, strong driving points, and killed without ; giving th«-favourite ■» look in. r ■ DECIDING COURSE. • l Mr J. B." Thompson ns Mr E. Rogers's blk d ' Black Fury, by Mad Fury — Mischief X, beat Col. M'Calmont ns Duke of Leeds'a bd b Lapai, by Fortuna Favente — Nopal. 'Betting: 9 to 4 on. Black Fury. It was not 1 long before a hare-came past the 3creen,,4nd at the first attempt the pair were despatched for the momentous tussle. Black' Fury, the<iuicker into his", atrfcte, -almost^ instantly showad with a slight advantage, but La'pal forged to him, and ii desperate neck-and-neck race followed for 200 yds. Tho extra stride of tho dog then began .to "tell, and as they neared the hare^he drew cleat. Just in the last few Btrides he increased his lead to~ two lengths, the bitch evidently, being "tken intent upon trying, for tha second point. The hare being only a weak one, how- . ever r Black Fury remained in powerful command, and wrenched strongly three tniles before puss broke round. LapaF, quick as lightning, ehot to the frorii, but instantly destr&yed her chance by bringing her teoth-into play. Black Fury scored a splendid victory, but it was only a moderate trial 'lor a Watorlo final, its duration bejng exactly 18sec. -Black Fury's pr,eviou.i course with George Tincler extended over • 28sec, whilst that between Lapal and Hesper stretched out to 49sec. _, WATERLOO PURSEj. of JE2IS, taken from the Cup Stalies, for the 32 dogs heaton in the first round of the Cup ; winner JE76, second £30, two dogs £15 each, four dogs £10 each, eight dogs £5 each — total, J8215. Prescot drew out a couple of lengths foj-the j first points, and after getting on terms witff hia i hare was still equal to maintaining- possession after stumbling. A second i mistake, however, i was" more prejudicial, Wild Oats going past be- ■ fore the blue could recover. The Irish puppy now set fco work in rather determined style, and once or twice keeping in his place under difficulties before -winding up with a death, finished up a- handsome winner. '" The honour of the Cup this year bejonged to the winner", for though Black Fury ' had the • good, fortune to get off -very lightly every time • hfi-went to- the slips, he ran -all- his courses in irreproachable style, his two efforts on-the- . last day against .George Tincler and inpal ■ being parfictilarly finer His breeding "does Trot • at the firat blush, perhaps, read very fashionable; but Mad Fury, his sire, was not wanting' in good blood, seeing that he was by Grreenßtick out of Monin, and Black Fury, if he was not in the best of , hands early in his career, often showed glimpses of smartish", form. Last year he succumbed in the second round of the. Cup to Little Blowhard, and Jtoekford beat hiia in tho Plate,, while this season he created an excellent impression by the style in which he 1 ran at Sleafprd. Subsequently he was- seriously anu>s,' and quite recently w'aß purchased by his present owner, Mr Rogers, for 90gs. It is noteworthy .that this was the latter gentleman's first effort to win the .Waterloo Cup, and he can bo congratulated on "the possession of a smart greyhound, who unites with a fine turn, of speed considerably more than avernge cleverness and extra good killing powers.
