AUCKLAND TOPICS.

Br Taihoa.

April 17. It looks as though the A\ickland Racing Club is going to enjoy another great season, as the recent Autumn meeting has panned out quite up to expectations, the profit being something like £500. , J. Rae, the well-known trainer and rider, whose 12 months' disqualification terminated last week, was before the A.R.C. to-day with an application for reinstatement, which was granted.

Jockey J. Pennell, whose disqualification for three months for using insulting language at the Thames Valley meeting was recommended to the A.R.C. by the country club, was to-day before the metropolitan committee. The recommendation was endorsed.

Tauhei is still at Bllerslie, but will be shipped to "Wellington to fulfil her Thompson Handicap engagement by the first steamer from here. She is in great form at present. It was generally understood here that Miss Emmy, the four-year-old daiighter of Cuirassier and Roie, had seen the last of her turf career and would be relegated to the stud, but I find that she -Js now being schooled over hurdles. It seems that she has shown very little aptitude for the jumping game, but it is possible that she will be perseveied with -Mr L. D. Nathan's pair, Explosion and Eoaella, claim important engagements at the ensuing "Wellington -meeting,' but there seems to be some doubt as to whether they will undertake the trip. Influenza will probably be found the cause should they fail to go.

During the week Mr j. O. Evett issued the weights for the leading evdnts at the AVellington Racing Club's meeting of April 26 and 28, and on the whole they seem to have proved excellent handicaps. In the Thompson Handicap nothing reads better than Tauhei 8.11, who on her running at the A.R.C. meeting must certainly be taken into consideration. Just afte» the weights were issued the daughter of Castor was supported locally at a little worse than 7's, the amount taken being 400 to 68. Others who appear to be favours blv treated are Sylvia Park 8.11, Castashore 8.8, Djin Djm 7.12, and Okoari 7.8.

There is some talk ol .trying Cavalier, -who landed the Welter Handicap on the third day of the A.R.C Autumn meeting, at the illegitimate game, the Grand National Hurdles in* June be' ing mentioned as likely to be his first mission over sticks. Cavalier has plenty of size, and if his attention is turned to lepping, I shall not be at all surprised to find the live-year-old son of Cuirassier and Clio turn out iv very useful jumper

Formula is the name bestowed by the Hon. Hugh JHossnian on the full tistei to Multiform, purchased by him at the last Wellington Park yearling sales. This youngster is among the batch owned by the Queensland sport who will remain under the care of R. Franks at Ellerslie.

H. Noble, who had the mount on Douglas in hi? engagements :it the A.X.C. Autumn meeting, leaves for London on Thursday next. tVe were not particularly impressed with his riding here. The Auckland Racing Club and Takapuna Jockey Club authorities hava. received conimuniatious from Sir George Clifford, chairman of the New Zealand Racing Conference, intimating that the appeal of the Takapuna Club from the decision of the metropolitan body in connection with the Hobpon Handicap start — better known as the -Bluecap-ilalberdier case — will be heard at "Wellington on or about the 7th prox. v It is feared something has gone amiss with Wsyuku'a sister, Okoari, who was brought up to Auckland with Battleaxe, but was not seen out on either day at Ellerslie. She was shipped back to New Plymouth last week.

Messrs Duder's mare Miss Anna, who, as mentioned last week, is supposed to have been poisoned at Pareora recently, is still alive, but so bad that it was last week found necessary to place her in slings. The case i? a very bad one, and there does not seem much hope for the four-year-old daughter of St. Hippo and Anna, but even should she live, her owners say she will be useless for racing purposes. Rex, the winner of the Easter Handicap, who gave his owner and tramer, Jno. Booth, a rather anxious time prior to his winning exploit at Ellerslie, 'has been sent wp the Waikalo for a spell, and the son of St. Leger will be fired on both forelegs. Messrs Edward Alison, H. H. Hayr, and "W. H. Herries have been nominated as delegates to represent the Auckland country clubs -on the New Zealand Racing Conference for the ensuing term. As the nominations are in excess of the vacant seats, a contest will take place. The trio of highly-bred brood mares, Bessie Macafthy, Freda, and Tiraillerie, brought up to "Wellington Park to be mated with St. Leger last January, preparatory to being shipped to England to join Mr Spencer Gollan's team in the old country, were last week sent back to Napier. They go from Napier to Wellington by rail, and will be shipped Home on the Rakaia leaving that port on Thursday next.
