LAKE COUNTY MEETING.

The Queenstown races wore held last week in. fine weather. Speculation was brisk* fijr.

though the fields were miserably poor. The feature of the meeting was the form displayed by Zillah, a daughter of Daniel O'Rourke, bailing from North Island. On the opening day she won a double, and followed it up on the second day by romping home in the Hack Race and Stewards' Welter. In the Flying Handicap there was no opposition, Zillah having a walk-over. Loughlin, who appears to have joined the ranks of owners again, had a win with each of his charges. Hippomenes beat Seabreeze and Rose Algicr in the Queenstown Handicap, and Dun Joseph unexpectedly downed Silverstream in the Grand Stand Handicap. In tho Trot Pringle landed the odds laid on Halifax. Langley won the Selling Race and Lord Zetland was too good for his solitary opponent in the Frankton Handicap. On the second day Castaway had a walf-over in the Maiden, Zillah in the Flyins;, and Seabreeze in the Consolation. Zillah, with 9.5 on her back, did the four furlongs in the Hack Race in 49 2-ssec, and directly after cut out the seven furlongs in the Stewafds' Welter with the same weight in lmin 30sec. If the times are correct this speedy mare should be heard of on metropolitan courses.
