TUAPEKA RACES. (From Omt Own Cohuespondent.) ! , LAWRENCE, January 18. " • The, first day's racing in connection with ' tfiVTuapeka County" Joelcey Club's annual meeting took place hero to-day. Fine, weather prevailed, and there was a good at r tendance, a considerable number of visitors to the course coming by train from Dunedin. The big event of the day, the Lawrence Handicap, was won by Lord Zetland, tho race affording a splendid finish. Strange to say, there was nothing on the winner, and the money on the other horses was returned to the investors minus a deduction of 10 per cent. Messrs Mason and Roberts put £916 through the totalißator during the day, or £266 less than they handled on tiie first day of last year's meeting.
