Problem Competition. TO THE EDITOR.
Sir,— ln last week's Witness Mr J. A. Lucas goes out of his way to ba disagreeable. In reply to my suggestion that he supply your readers with a standard for problem construction, he quotes what I am alleged to have said in reference to Mr Mulvey's decision. That I disagreed with the judge's award is both false and ridiculous. You, Sir, can bear me out that I expected No. 11 to take a place, and bodid some of the best judgeß in Dunedin. What I did say was that if any problem with a3 good a solution and more natural position was entered, it would take first place. Mr Lucaa may return to this charge, but until ho answers the question as to what is the standard for pioblem construction, I am content to leAve the matter with your readers. — I am, etc., D. A. BrodtEo September 16.
