In Native schools under the department no pure Maori is employed as a teacher, but there ar9 two half-castes in charge of schools and three half-caste assistants and two assistant between European one! half-caste. In boarding schools receiving Government subsidy there arc two half-caste pupil teachers, one Maori assistant, one half caste Essistant, and oacj half-caste head teacher.
