I AUCKLAND. I Mr Brabant gave judgment on the 30th in the case of George Jackson, against whom several charges were preferred by the police. The case lasted three days, and eycited as much interest as the Albion Hotel fracas case. His Worship said the case, ta- '' ken as a whole, was among those which he ' legretted to have to say were becoming frequent in that court, where there must bo necessarily false swearing on one side or the other, and not only false swearing, but apparently a conspiracy to give false evidence. He was strongly of opinion that the police must be supported by the bench in doing their duty, so long as they did not go beyond it. On the charge of disorderly conduct while drunk Jackson was fined 40s and costs, in default one month's hard labour ; for assaulting Constable Doutheff he was fined £5, in default one month, and for using obscene language he was sentenced to one month's hard labour. j At the inquest held on Robert Rae ' M'Gregor, killed on Sunday night in the > Waitekauri Jubilee mine, the evidence showed that the men were warned not to go down in a bucket. A verdict was returned that while deceased was descending i the shaft of the Jubilee Company in a | bucket, contrary to instructions, he met his 'death accidentally. No blame is attachable to anyone.
