J GOLF.
I The Otago Golf Club held its monthly com' 1 petition for the St. Andrew's Cross on Saturday last in a gale of wind. There was a very , good muster of members, but very few good scoring cards, thanks no doubt to the disagreeable conditions under which the game was played. The winner proved to be Mr J. R. Scott, who, playing from scratch, was round I in 96, which, taking everything into consideration, represents as good a display of golf, pro- , bably, as Las been seen on the links for a long ( time. Itfr John Ritchie (20 strokes) was run-ner-up with 97 net (117-20), a.id will no doubt ! be heard of yet as a player, as he is quite a j novice. Appended are details, players not j mentioned being over 110 net, or not sending , in their cards : —
