ADDINGTON STOCK MARKET. ;

(Per, United Peess Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, August 31. • TCha entries of all classes of stock at Addingtoi were small to-day, and the attendance was only an average one. A good deal of both the : fat and store stock was of inferior quality, and, ', •wita the present scarcity oi feed, business in toth store sheep 'and cattle was slack. The entries for tho day comprised 6514 sheep, 502 heid of cattle, and 213 pigs. Fat Cattle. — The yarding consisted of only 147 head, of which 28 were from the West Coast of the North Island. These were '. ecarcely as good as those offered last week, and a good many of them showed signs of having ' ifceen knocked about orr board ship. Some 20 of the best brought from £9 12s 6cl to £11 17s 6d, the rest being passed. With the exception of 0. couple of show bullocks sent in by Mr S. " Grarforth, the bulk of the local cattle were of inferior quality. Mr Garforth's second prize . bullock in the all-aged class at the last Metro- ; politan show brought £14, and his first prize stesr in the two-year-old class £13. The better classes of cattle met fair competition, but any- , thing that was not prime was neglected. Extra ' prime beef, per 1001b, brought vlx> to 255 ; prime, 22s ■ to 24s 6d ; good, 16a ~6d to 26s ; and cow and inferior, 13s 6d to 15s 6d per head. Good to "prime steers sold at , from £8 to £9 15s ; ordinary do, -£5 i.ss to £7 ; good to prime heifers, £7 to £S 10s; irdinary ' di. £3 17s 6d to £6 10s; cows, £3 15s to £(j 153. . Fat Sheep. — The yarding of fat sheep was not so large as of late, and the quality was very mixed. Very few good sheep came from this district, some coming from the North Island and others from Southland. There were very few really good freezing sheep, and with the unsatisfactory news from Homo buyers for ex- . ( port were holding off, and a drop of quite Is pir head took place. With the exception of a ' few of the best pens of heavyweight butchers' Bheep. this class also showed a decline of . fully Is to Is 6d per head. Unfinished lines j of which there were a great number, were very hard to quit, and had it not been for the fact that a few graziers were in want of them they , would have been hard to quit at any price. Prime heavyweight wethers brought 17s to 18s sd, the latter price being reached by some , North Islanders; freezers, 14s 2d to 16s; un- | finished lines, 10s lOd to 13s 6d; heavyweight ewes, 163 to 18s 3d; medium sorts, 12s to 15s ! •d* merino wethers, 10s to 16s 9d. j Pigs. — All classes were well represented, ! ajnd any good sorts of baconers and porkers j sold at fully 4£d to 4£d per lb. Prices per ! head were : Baconers, 35s to 575 ; porkers, 21s ( 6d to 335; stores, 15s 6d to 27s 6d; weaners, •s to 12s.
